Fashion Flapper (Red) Adult Costume

Did you know that the term Flapper referred to a young woman who wore short skirts, had bobbed hair and listened to jazz? Not only that they tended to wear a lot of makeup, drink and smoke, drive cars and generally act in a rather impetuous manner. If this sounds like you then this then this rather flirty red flapper girl costume with layered fringe is perfect for you. It also comes with a gold sequin headband with feather. Look like you’ve stepped out of F.Scott Fitzergald’s famous novel, The Great Gatsby. The most famous gangsters of the 1920’s included Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, Bugs Moran and Dutch Schultz. These lords of crime ruled of the underworld of the 1920’s with their smuggling and bootlegging. Look smooth and smart in this dapper pinstriped gangster suit with attached pocket handkerchief, crimson dickie with attached white tie and a pair of gangster spats with button detail. Fedora or trilby hats were usually worn by middle class men whilst more working class men wore a standard flat cap or no hat. Upper class men tended to wear top hats or a homburg hat. Throughout the twenties men wore short suit jackets. In the early twenties the jackets were very high waisted and often worn with belts with the lapels fairly narrow. Pants were straight and narrow. By the mid twenties, however, wider pants became fashionable and were known as Oxford bags. The jacket became normal waisted with wider lapels.

Gangster Moll Costume (Adult)

After the restricted fashion of earlier times, the confining corset was thrown out by the women and the dress became low-waisted and looser. With this new fashion women could kick up their heels to the new dances such as the Charleston.

As mentioned earlier the Roaring Twenties was a time of great music, literature, silent movies and of course glamorous fashion. Also known as the Jazz age, the period after the First World War and through the twenties saw a huge popularity in popular music as well as arts and culture.

A feature of 1920s music included Jazz, Ragtime and of course Broadway musicals. Well-known artistes from that time included blues singer Bessie Smith and jazz musician Louis Armstrong.
